Website and donation terms

Using this website and supporting our work

Effective 20 September 2026. These terms cover website use, one-off donations, monthly donations, Gift Aid and refunds.

1. About us and these terms

This website is operated by Roots for Change UK, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England and Wales (charity number 1209308). Our registered office is Bargain Outlet, 111–113 King Street, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE33 1DP. By using the website, you agree to these terms. If you make a donation, the donation sections also apply.

2. Using the website

You may use the site only for lawful purposes. Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access, interfere with its operation, introduce malicious material or misuse its forms. Information on the site is general and may change; it is not legal, tax, financial or other professional advice.

3. Making a donation

We accept one-off and monthly donations through Stripe. You choose an amount and are shown the total before authorising payment on Stripe's secure checkout. A donation is completed only when Stripe confirms successful payment. A failed, abandoned or cancelled checkout does not create a donation.

Stripe receives your payment-method details. Roots for Change UK receives the information needed to record the donation, provide donor support, manage Gift Aid where selected and reconcile payments.

4. Campaign preferences and costs

A campaign selection records your preference and helps us understand donor intent, but donations made through this website are unrestricted. The trustees retain responsibility for applying charitable funds where they are most needed and may use them for related charitable work if needs or circumstances change.

If you choose to add a contribution towards processing costs, it forms part of your donation and is subject to the same terms. The full amount shown by Stripe is the amount you authorise.

5. Monthly donations

A monthly donation continues at the displayed interval until cancelled. You can use the Manage monthly donation option shown on a verified donation confirmation page, or open our secure Stripe donor portal. Stripe emails a secure login link to the donor address. Cancellation stops future charges; it does not cancel or erase donations already completed.

Please cancel before the next collection date. If another payment has already begun processing, contact us promptly and we will review the circumstances.

6. Gift Aid

Gift Aid is available only if you make the required declaration and pay enough UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all Gift Aid claimed on your donations in the relevant tax year. You are responsible for any difference. Tell us if your name, address or tax circumstances change or if you want to cancel your declaration. Donors living outside the UK may qualify only if they still meet the UK tax requirement.

7. Errors and refund requests

Charitable donations are not generally refundable simply because a donor changes their mind. If you believe a payment was unauthorised, duplicated, made in error or affected by exceptional circumstances, contact info@rootsforchangeuk.com promptly with the donor email, payment date, amount and any receipt reference. We will consider the request under applicable charity law and our duties as trustees. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be limited.

8. Content, availability and external links

Unless stated otherwise, website text, branding and original materials belong to Roots for Change UK or are used with permission. You may link to public pages and make reasonable personal, non-commercial use, but you may not suggest endorsement or reproduce protected material commercially without permission.

We aim to keep the site accurate and available but cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free access. Links to third-party sites are provided for convenience; their operators are responsible for their content, security and privacy practices.

9. Liability and governing law

To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for loss arising from reliance on general website information or from circumstances outside our reasonable control. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or any liability that the law does not allow us to exclude.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights that apply where you live.

10. Contact and complaints

Contact info@rootsforchangeuk.com with questions. Fundraising complaints are handled under our public fundraising complaints procedure, which explains response times, review and escalation to the Fundraising Regulator.

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top shows the version that applies when you use the website or make a donation.
